Abstract

Pattern (Tops/Dresses/Skirts/Jackets/Cardigans/Coats/Jeans/Jumpers)

An abstract pattern, like abstract art, is one which does not depict a person, place or thing so to speak. It simply uses shapes and colours not rooted in reality, to create form.

Accentuated Waist

An accentuated waist detail is one which sculpts and shapes the waist, drawing attention to it.

Acrylic Mix

Material (Cardigans/Dresses/Jackets/Skirts/Tops/Coats/Jumpers/Jeans/Bottoms)

A man-made fibre that produces a fabric with a soft, woolly hand and excellent colour retention. Acrylic is easy to wash, dries quickly and resists wrinkles.

Angel (Long)

Sleeve (Dresses/Tops)

Long, loose flowing sleeves which often begin at the shoulder and end at the wrist. They are very wide and form the shape of an angel 'wing'.

Angel (Short)

Sleeve (Dresses/Tops)

Short, loose flowing sleeves. They are very wide and form the shape of a 'wing'.

Ankle Length

Length (Dresses/Skirts/Coats/Jeans/Bottoms)

The hem ends just above the ankle.

Argyll Check

Pattern (Tops/Dresses/Skirts/Jackets/Cardigans/Coats/Jeans/Jumpers)

An Argyll check is a pattern made of diamonds in a diagonal form. The pattern is derived from the tartan of Clan Campbell, of Argyll, in West Scotland and was popularised by Pringle of Scotland.

Asymmetric

Neckline (Dresses/Jumpers/Tops)

A neckline that is cut on a diagonal.

Asymmetric Sleeve

Sleeve (Cardigans/Dresses/Jumpers/Tops)

Sleeve covering only one arm which may be long or short in length.

Aviator

Style (Jackets)

A classic jacket with an illustrious pedigree, from the days of the Spitfire through to numerous Hollywood blockbusters. Normally leather, with tight, front-zippered closures, and extended sheepskin high wrap collars, the well thought-out design ensured as little wind as possible got into the jackets while military pilots were in flight.
